It started as a hobby to take my mind off school and spend some time with my friends. As of 2020, I’ve made 15 volumes of zines. Many of them I produced myself from the attic of my rental house before going on to teach zine-making workshops in living rooms across the GTA.
Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School
I had the pleasure of running a workshop for 100 female grade 9 students at Monsignor Doyle Catholic Secondary School. The 50-minute zine-making workshop was part of the school’s Self Esteem Day. Students cut up old fashion magazines and reworked the pieces into zines promoting positive body image and self-love. Using a collage method allowed these young women to respond directly to media portrayals of the “ideal body type” and take control of the narrative by rearranging the images in their preferred way.
